Network Printer Showing Offline

In this guide we will be showing you how to fix a common issue whereby networked Multi-function Printers can sometimes show as offline when printing from Windows 8.1, Windows 10 and 2012 even though connectivity is fine.  This is due to Windows determining the availability of the printer via the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP).

  1.  Right click the Windows button in the bottom left hand corner of the screen and selecting ‘Control panel’.
  2. Select “View devices and printers”, in our example we have a Kyocera printer that is showing as offline even though both the server and printer are connected to the network without issue.
  3. Right click the printer, and select ‘Printer properties’.
  4. Select the ‘Ports’ tab and find the port to which the printer is connected.
  5. Click on ‘Configure port’ and deselect the check box titled “SNMP status enabled”.
  6. Click ‘OK’, and then ‘Close’ to close the open boxes
  7. Your printer should now show as ‘online’.
